The Diary - May 31

This week’s diary entry is a collection of observations….

River City Reading Room will participate in Peoria’s First Friday gallery hop beginning Friday, June 5th.   The current exhibit in the gallery, “Main Street and Beyond:  Peoria Artists View Their City” contains paintings and prints from the collection of the Peoria Historical Society.  Thanks to support from Arts Partners, the musical duo Hollow Down will perform, and the Reading Room will stay open until 8 pm.

I spent time this week trying to advance my limited graphic design skills on Canva.com.  My first project is a monthly newsletter. If it did not show up in your email inbox, you can drop me an email (charleslevesque@hotmail.com) and I will add your name to the distribution list.

The Reading Room hosted its first Author Talk on Saturday. Local author and former teacher Tom Laird was my guest.  Sadly, attendance was not what I had hoped.  In the run-up to Tom’s visit, I read and enjoyed his latest, “Coldest Case.”  In it, Jimmy Parisi, a Chicago cop, tries to close a “cold case” murder that stumped his late father, also a member of the CPD.  The book is pacey, dialogue-driven, and very evocative of Chicago of the 1980’s and earlier.
